Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Donald Trump ahead of his swearing-in as the 47th President of the United States and expressed hope for improved relations with the US under his administration.
During a video call with members of the Security Council, the Russian President said, “We are hearing statements from Trump and members of his team that they want to restore direct contacts with Russia, which were blocked by the previous government through no fault of ours.”
Putin said, “We are hearing such statements from him that he should do everything to prevent the Third World War. We certainly welcome such an approach and congratulate him on taking office as the President of the United States.”
The Russian President further said that Moscow is ready to discuss a possible peace agreement with Ukraine. But it should not be just a temporary ceasefire, but a permanent peace and Russia’s interests should be taken care of in it. It is worth noting that before becoming the President, Trump has said on many occasions that he can end the Russia-Ukraine war within twenty-four hours of taking oath.
Joe Biden: Biden took a big action on the last day of his term, pardoned his family and political allies
Minutes before leaving the presidency, Joe Biden signed a decree pardoning five members of his family. Two of them are his brothers. Biden said that he has taken this decision to protect his family from investigation of baseless allegations made for political reasons.
Biden also pardoned his brother
Let us tell you that those whom Biden pardoned include his brothers James and Francis, James’ wife Sarah and Biden’s sister Valerie and brother-in-law John. Apart from this, Biden also pardoned American activist Leonard Peltier. Peltier has been in federal prison since 1975 for the murder of two FBI agents. Now he will spend the rest of his sentence under house arrest instead of jail.
In the case, Biden pardoned his family members, such as his siblings, some political figures such as General Mark Milley and Dr. Anthony Fauci, to avoid potential legal threats against them. The move was to protect his family from investigations and attacks taken by the administration of former President Donald Trump.
Also, former US President Donald Trump also commuted the sentence of 80-year-old indigenous activist Leonard Peltier, who was convicted of killing two Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents in 1975.
Biden gave information
In the case, former US President Joe Biden issued his statement and shared the information. He said that he took this step out of fear that false allegations could be made against his family and associates as part of political vendetta, which would harm his reputation and financial situation. If seen, it is clear from this that Biden took these steps to save his family and political allies on his last day, so that they can continue their work without any legal pressure.
Calls for acquittal of the accused
Biden also said that even when individuals have done nothing wrong and are ultimately acquitted, the mere fact of being investigated or prosecuted can cause irreparable damage to their reputation and finances, further underlining how costly a legal battle can be for those targeted.
