Delhi Election Results: Everyone was blown away in the storm of BJP

AAP has been wiped out in the storm of BJP in Delhi. The big leaders of AAP have lost the election. AAP candidate Atishi has won from Kalkaji. Along with this, 4 Muslim leaders of AAP have also won.

After 26 years, BJP has returned to power in the national capital with a huge majority. Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) dream of forming the government for the fourth time has been shattered. Many bigwigs including AAP’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and second-ranked leader Manish Sisodia have lost the election. CM Atishi also barely managed to save her seat. Congress, which was hoping for something better, has again suffered a bad fate and the party has not been able to open its account for the third consecutive election. Along with this, the charisma of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was once again seen in the by-election held on Milkipur assembly seat of Ayodhya district. Yogi has proved to be a skilled organizer by making BJP win with a huge number of votes with the help of generals in the Milkipur by-election.

What happened in Delhi?

The Aam Aadmi Party, which has formed the government three times in a row, entered the electoral fray with the intention of scoring a stunning victory here, but the BJP surprised everyone by preventing them from coming to power. Voting was held on 5 February for 70 seats in Delhi. 12 out of 14 exit polls had predicted the BJP to form the government, which proved to be correct. The BJP won 48 seats, which is 40 more than the seats it won last time. At the same time, the Aam Aadmi Party lost 40 seats and stopped at 22. The party for which the results did not change is the Congress. It could not open its account in the third consecutive assembly election in Delhi.

What were the key points of BJP’s victory?

BJP fought the elections with vigor. The party fiercely cornered Aam Aadmi Party on issues like Sheeshmahal, Yamuna water, liquor scam and jailing of Aam Aadmi Party’s top leaders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called AAP a ‘disaster’. BJP also included free schemes in its election manifesto. That is, BJP left no stone unturned to corner Aam Aadmi Party. When the results came out, BJP got 45.56% votes, which was more than 38.7% votes in 2020. The most talked about was Pravesh Sahib Singh Verma, who defeated AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi assembly seat. Sandeep Dixit from Congress was also in the fray against him.

What were the main points of Aam Aadmi Party’s defeat?

Kejriwal’s arrest and imprisonment in the liquor scam case weakened the leadership of Aam Aadmi Party. The party was also surrounded by issues like Sheeshmahal and poisoning of Yamuna water. The party could not stop the rebellious attitude of some leaders. The result was that Kejriwal could not save his seat. Manish Sisodia was in the fray from Jangpura instead of Patparganj this time, but he also lost. Saurabh Bhardwaj, Satyendra Jain, Rakhi Birlan and Awadh Ojha, who was contesting for the first time, also faced defeat. Among the big leaders, only outgoing Chief Minister Atishi and Minister Gopal Rai could save their seats.

What was special about Congress’s performance?

In this election, it seemed that Congress was in the fray not for its own victory but to defeat Aam Aadmi Party. It fielded candidates on important seats after careful consideration. Congress could not open its account, but it prevented Aam Aadmi Party from winning on more than 10 seats. If Congress and Aam Aadmi Party had fought this election together, it could have created problems for BJP. New Delhi seat was also a matter of prestige for Congress, from where former MP Sandeep Dixit was in the fray. He got 4568 votes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said-

‘The liquor scam defamed Delhi. During the Corona period, the ‘AAP-Da’ people were building a Sheeshmahal. They hatched conspiracies to hide the scams. We will table the CAG report in the House in the first assembly session. Corruption will be investigated. The looters will have to be sent back. This is Modi’s guarantee. It is also clear from the mandate of Delhi that there is no place for shortcuts, lies and deceit in politics. The public has short-circuited the shortcut politics.

Arvind Kejriwal said-

‘We humbly accept the decision of the people. I congratulate the BJP for this victory. I hope that they will live up to the expectations with which the people have given them the majority. In the 10 years that the people gave us, we worked in the field of education, health, electricity, water etc. Now with the decision that the people have given us, we will not only play the role of a constructive opposition, but will also continue to serve the people. I congratulate the workers of the Aam Aadmi Party for fighting a very spectacular election.’

Rahul Gandhi said-

‘We humbly accept the mandate of Delhi. Heartfelt thanks to all the Congress workers of the state for their dedication and all the voters for their support. However, the Congress suffered electoral defeat for the third time in Delhi and the party could not win a single seat in the 70-member assembly. The party also suffered a crushing defeat in key constituencies. Apart from this, the Congress did not win any seat in Delhi even in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, which it fought in alliance with the AAP.’

What’s next?

Names like Parvesh Verma, Dushyant Gautam and Vijender Gupta are being discussed from BJP, who can be the contenders for the post of Chief Minister. However, BJP’s strategy for other states suggests that the party may approve a surprising name. In such a situation, it will be decided in the coming days who will become the Chief Minister of Delhi? What are the initial decisions after the formation of the government, will also be monitored.

In the Aam Aadmi Party camp, it will be decided who will become the leader of the opposition in the assembly. Atishi and Gopal Rai are the contenders for this post.
