The police has been asked what action it took on the stampede that took place during the screening of the film at Sandhya Theater on December 4? A detailed action report (ATR) has been sought by giving four weeks’ time.
Commission has issued a notice
The complaint has been filed with the commission by advocate Rama Rao Immaneni. The complaint alleges that the victim named Revathi died in the stampede. The woman had come to Sandhya Theatre during the premiere show of the film Pushpa 2. The woman lost her life after the lathicharge by the Chikkadpally police. Actor Allu Arjun also attended the premiere show.
According to the complaint, a stampede occurred after the police lathicharged. Revathi’s son was also seriously injured along with Revathi. Revathi later died. According to the notice, it has been mentioned in the complaint that when Allu Arjun entered the theatre, the police lathicharged. The organisers had not made any arrangements to control the crowd. There is anger across the country after the incident.
According to the NHRC, there have been many high profile incidents in the past in which the police have been accused of negligence. At present, the police has not responded to the notice. According to Rama Rao’s complaint, it has been said that if the police had made proper arrangements, the situation would not have worsened. Action has been demanded from NHRC against the responsible officers.
At present, the posts of chairman and members are vacant in the Telangana State Human Rights Commission. Therefore, NHRC has summoned a report from the police. The prosecution had argued in the court that the woman died due to overcrowding and ruckus. Actor Allu Arjun was arrested in the case on December 13 and he got interim bail on December 14.
